The center of Kazakhstan’s economy, finance, and industry, Almaty accounts for 20 percent of Kazakhstan’s GDP. It has a vibrant and well-developed art scene, as it was selected as a UNESCO City of Music in 2017. Almaty also hosted the 2017 Winter Universiade.
